R.I.T.E.S. Youth Justice Pilot Program
The R.I.T.E.S. Youth Justice Pilot Program is a culturally specific program for Black youth in Toronto who are involved with the youth justice system. The program aims to address Black youth’s individual needs through an anti-oppression framework grounded in Africentric value systems, a trauma-informed approach, and through evidence-based research on Black youth leadership programming, anti-Black racism, stress management and strengthening racial identity.
The program fosters the mental wellbeing of Black youth through short-term relationship based counselling (8 to 10 sessions), and by enhancing skill development, connecting youth to their communities and elders, and through resource and asset mapping.
