Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) is an accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre with a range of services and programs for youth and families across Toronto. These services are client-centered and flexible, geared for youth and families with a range of mental health needs who may have difficulty accessing traditional office-based services. Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) is seeking a Youth and Family Counsellor to join our Pride and Prejudice team. The Pride & Prejudice Program specifically supports youth aged 12-24 exploring sexual and gender identity, coming out, interpersonal conflicts, experiences of trauma and mental health challenges. This position will be primarily responsible for providing individual, group, and family counselling to 2SLGBTQIA+   youth and their families.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy (or family work).
  • Provide time-limited (6-18 months) therapy services that are informed by trauma, attachment, and family systems theories using affirming gender and sexuality counselling approaches.
  • Provide flexible services that ensure accessibility for youth and families including after school appointments plus two evenings a week
  • Work collaboratively with youth, parents, school personnel and other service providers
  • Develop individualized and effective service delivery plans using a strength based and youth and family engagement perspective.
  • Provide limited case management support for transitions to community services.
  • Complete documentation and clinical reports in a timely manner
  • Participate on internal CTYS or external 2SLGBTQIA+ committees

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduate degree in social work, counselling, psychotherapy or relevant degree and/or equivalent professional education and/or experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in Children’s Mental Health setting
  • Membership with a professional regulatory body permitted to practice psychotherapy in Ontario (OCSWSSW, CRPO)
  • Membership in and identification with 2SLGBTQIA+ (priority given to membership in the Trans, non-binary and BIPOC communities)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the issues, needs and Toronto resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth
  • Expertise in working with Trans, non-binary and gender questioning youth
  • Knowledge of and commitment to practice from an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework
  • Knowledge of and commitment to evidence informed practice
  • Experience supporting family members of transgender and non-binary youth, individually & in group
  • Experience in assessment, counselling and case coordination with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth experiencing serious mental health challenges
  • Experience in providing trauma informed and family systems interventions and crisis support/safety planning
  • Strong communication and computer technology skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with youth and their families
  • Must be available to work two evenings per week
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening Check required
  • Proficiency in French and/or another language is an asset

Founded in 1973, Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) is an accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre serving Toronto’s most vulnerable youth. For over 50 years, CTYS has provided evidence-informed mental health services to at-risk youth aged 12 to 24 and their families, helping them resolve psychological and social challenges. You bring 7-10 years of progressive management experience, with non-profit leadership experience strongly preferred. An understanding of the child and youth mental health sector in Ontario, along with familiarity with mental health challenges facing youth is preferred. Candidates with transferable experience from sectors such as youth justice, child welfare, child and youth developmental services, adult mental health etc., including those who have experience leading through an amalgamation are also encouraged to apply. Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience) is required; a graduate degree is preferred. This position is based in Toronto, Ontario. This role has a target hiring salary of $150,000 to $165,000, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Manager, Client Services

This is an exciting opportunity to join and contribute to a progressive, innovative management team. CTYS is an accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre with a range of services and programs for youth and families across Toronto. As a manager you are the key to support our staff, rich team development and most importantly our clients who present with multiple experiences of intersectional trauma, racism and systemic challenges. These services are client centered and flexible and geared for youth and families with a range of mental health needs who may have difficulty accessing traditional office-based services. Youth and family services are provided in person in the office, virtually, in schools and community settings. You will provide direct support to talented, passionate, dedicated teams of therapists and counselors (12 FTE), who provide mental health support and psychotherapeutic interventions to youth and caregivers.

Reporting Relationship: Managing Director, Service Excellence and Equity.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct clinical supervision and staff support.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings and opportunities for team clinical consultation.
  • Support the onboarding, professional development and clinical growth of staff
  • Provide accountability processes to ensure staff manage all administrative responsibilities and expectations.
  • Support staff in navigating acute and emerging client-related crises as needed.
  • Support Anti Oppression, Equity & ABR Management Leadership Initiatives
  • Provide advocacy and structural leverage for staff team, around issues of equity and social justice.
  • Support and sustain values of social/racial justice as central to the work.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining high functioning staff teams and oversee all admin functions pertaining to staff
    and the programs.
  • Sustain and build positive, collaborative working relationships with communities, mental health care providers &
    crisis services, hospitals and educational settings.
  • Ensure clinical services are delivered in a manner consistent with all applicable agency policies and procedures and
    accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the review, development and implementation of new policies, technology, and processes as needed
    (e.g. for accreditation).
  • Champion and support the movement towards and implementation of measurement based care outcome tools and processes.
  • Provide clinical and/or administrative coverage for other CTYS programs as needed.
Qualifications:
  • A graduate degree (or equivalent) in social work or related helping profession required.
  • Membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body (RSW/ RP) required.
  • Identification with and /or experience supporting BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities is an asset.
  • 2 years experience working within the Children’s Mental Health Sector
  • 3 years supervisory experience required.
  • Management experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated clinical training, knowledge, and experience in supporting therapists to provide trauma informed, individual and family
    therapeutic interventions including brief models to youth and their caregivers
  • Experience navigating, strong understanding of, and comfort navigating and advocating within the child welfare, and education systems.
  • Clinical understanding of attachment based therapeutic approaches.
  • Experience supervising/implementing psychoeducational & therapeutic groups for youth.
  • Demonstrated clinical and administrative supervision and case management skills to ensure effective service delivery by staff.
  • Commitment to practice from Anti-Oppression, Equity, ABR and Trauma informed frameworks.
  • Commitment to Evidence Informed Practices.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and familiarity with client database software.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented as well as able to hold ‘the big picture’ in mind.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in French language is an asset.
  • COVID Vaccinations required.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening required.
